Along with a movie poster template I have created a magazine cover template. Due to all of the research I have undertaken earlier in the course, I am going to be creating quite a simple cover which doesn't have many cover lines etc. This is because the Little White Lies magazine tends to keep it simple and I want the photo and layout of the images I am using to tell the story rather than using cover lines. Another thing which little white lies does is that the bar code and dateline etc are constructed within the masthead so these do not to be added extras.

Target Audience
I have created a tweet asking about the layout and font used on my template film poster. I think twitter is the most effective and fast way to receive feedback on my work so it is something I have used regularly throughout the course of the project. The response says that the font looks effective however the placing of the tagline could be changed. I am going to try to position the tagline differently and make a comparison between both.

This is the template of a movie poster which I have created, It shows the film title, tagline and names of actors, producers etc. The font will potentially be white when the photo had been added into the background so that it contrasts a bit better.

We are beginning the filming process on Friday the 12th as this is date where we can gather the characters and have the house free so that we can use all of the areas which we want to for example the bathroom and staircase. We have decided that we are going to aim to complete filming for all of the raw material tomorrow however we need to organise a date in which we will do the second set of filming.

I have made a tweet which asks the audience who fit with the demographic whether they think the actor/actress we are using are going to fit the roles of the characters well...
Here is the response...

I have came up with the tagline 'The paranoia will kill you'.
I like this font and feel like is works well with the theme, However it doesnt look very good when it is put next to the film name as it doesn't look like there is a house style which is necessary.
I have tried the tagline in the same font as the film title...
I like the way it looks and it portrays a continuous theme.

The decision that 'Tormented' is the film name has enabled me to explore the fonts which I sampled previously in the actual name of the film rather than the font name.
From the feedback I received on different fonts previously said that this font was the most suitable however when I have typed in the name of the film (Tormented) it doesn't look very effective...
I have looked at more fonts on dafont.com which come under the 'horror' section and have came across this one which I think works really well...
I think this font in white would work well with a darker background.

I like this movie poster which is a similar genre to mine. I like the way there are hands all over the girls body. I am going to change this idea slightly to make it original. I am thinking of creating a poster which shows the main female role standing, shown in a medium shot. I am then going to have the man standing behind her with his hand on her shoulder. The editing which I am planning on doing will mean that the man looks a bit blurry and more like a dark figure.

I have began looking into sounds and pieces of music which could be added into our filming to create a darker atmosphere.
This piece of music is made up of deep, slow sounds which will be distressing for the audience. It would fit perfectly with a piece of film where a girl is being followed. It portrays a feeling of nervousness and this will therefore reflect into the emotions of the audience.
Target Audience
I have tweeted my mindmap which brainstorms the potential film names. I think twitter is one of the fastest ways to recieve feedback which is straight to the point.
The feedback I received says that 'Tormentor' is the most effective.
Hannah has also put her mind map of potential film names onto social media to receive some feedback as to which would be the most effective film name.
Hannah's feedback says that 'Tormented' is the highest rated film name which is the same as the response to mine. The target audience like the name 'Tormented' so that is what we are going to use.

Potential props:
I think this large ornate mirror which is in my bedroom could prove to be the perfect prop for a horror movie, in a lot of horror films you see mirrors as they can show both the character and what is behind them all at once. A mirror shows the characters expression and the actuon behind them at the same time. There is a sense of vulnerability when there is use of a mirror.

I have made a tweet which shows one of my blog posts showing the potential fonts. I did this so that I could receive feedback on social media because it is a quick way to communicate. The response I have received says that 'Corrupted Democrazy' is the most suitable font to use for a horror film based on a multiple personality disorder.

Making a mindmap of potential film names has helped me to gather a few ideas which I have had and evaluate the effectiveness of them all. I like 'Tormentor' and 'Deranged' however I want to try and develop something slightly more original as I feel like the majority of the names here are quite plain. The name of the film is one of the first things people look at and I therefore want it to be eye catching however I don't want it to reveal too much about the film. Hannah has also created a mindmap of names which she likes. We are going to make a smaller mindmap of all of the shortlisted/developed film names.
Planning
This is the template I have created for my film poster. I am trying to keep to a theme throughout the trailer, the magazine cover and the film poster. I am going to use the same fonts throughout all three of the products to make sure that there is a link between them. I am going to attempt to use a colour scheme however this may differ between the cover and the poster.
My magazine cover does not have any cover lines apart from the main one so that there are no distractions from the compilation of photo's. My poster is going to be one image rather than a collage of multiple ones. I want the poster to portray a different atmosphere than the magazine cover.

Research into similar products
This edition of 'Dazed' magazine is similar to something which I intend to create. There are two different images which have been merged together to create one. This creates a sense of disorientation and confusion with the audience. There is a mixture of both a black and white image and a colour image which I think is effective however I will not be bringing this forward onto my magazine cover. There is again only the masthead and one simple cover line used which is similar to the edition of 'Little White Lies' and 'Film' magazine.

I have decided I am going to do an issue of 'Little White Lies' magazine for my cover. I have compiled a few idea as a result of my research into magazine covers. I have taken the idea of putting seperate smaller images which will fit together and create one. This is a rough idea of what I am going to try and achieve. The pink boxes will show the main character (the girl)'s face and the blue will show the "harrasser". This will hopefully come out to look like one face, half of it being the paranoid girl and half of it being the man she is paranoid about. I think this will be effective as it shows both of the main characters to the audience without revealing the main twist in the story line.

Research into different words and sayings for paranoia has led me to coming across this. I feel like this would be a suitable name for the film as the main character is focused on the idea of a man stalking her. This relates to the first half of the definition of the word which makes a link between that and the theme of the film.

Research
This cover is not particularly covered in cover lines or anything else however I really like the way the polaroid images have been merged together to create the cover. This is an idea which I would bring forward into my work as I feel that the idea of multiple pictures coming together as one reflects what I am aiming to achieve with my film. There are many different aspects of the film which all need to come together for it to make sense. Also this cover is not featuring a horror film however it can be adjusted.

Fonts which would look effective for our ancillary products...
All of the fonts are quite distorted which would reflect the mood of the trailer, poster and magazine cover.

Research
This magazine cover is similar to what I'm trying to achieve. I really like the way seperate pieces have been put together to create one image. I have decided I want to re-create something similar. I have had the idea that I am going to create a face which shows half the face of the paranoid girl and half of the imaginary "harasser". I think this will give the impression of slight confusion which reflects the theme of the film. Little White Lies magazine covers do not have cover lines or anything else to distract away from the main image which I quite like. This gives more space to create an effective image for the cover.
Drafting
Hannah and I have compiled our ideas for the ending of the trailer. These are things which we think will create a lot of tension and build up an atmosphere. A lot of these things we have picked up from existing horror films.

Looking at different areas of the house which provide potential shots for the trailer was something I found useful. For example the double doors reveal a lot and when it is dark you cannot see anything in the distance. This provides massive potential for us to create a mysterious shot of a figure or shadow close up the door.
The front door is going to be shot from a few different angles as it opens and closes at different points. Again the glass parts of the door would allow us to shoot the dark figure standing in the doorway which may shock the audience.

I have been working on a title and when doing so I began research in multiple personality disorder as this is what our film is going to be based around. When reading about it it explained that people who have this disorder feel like they have multiple minds so I searched for synonyms of the words 'multiple' and 'many' coming across ....
I then looked into popular horror films based on multiple personality disorder for inspiration...
None of these film names have a particular relation to the theme however they are all still effective and subtly show the intended message.
The film title 'Dorothy Mills' stood out to me as it is very simple however reveals the identity of the main character. Using the characters name reveals that there is a lot of focus on the girl however we want the focus to initially be on the 'man/stalker' in her house.

These will all come under the drafting category.

Organisation
Hannah and I have gathered our main ideas for the plot of the film and have developed a detailed version from which I am going to design a story board.
The establishing shot is of the house and this is going to be during the night time so that it sets an atmosphere. We are going to try and make the house appear as secluded as possible so that it gives the sense that the characters are a lot more alone when events start to unfold. We are going to show the girl in the bath using a long shot which will be on her level so that the audience can see the bath and her head. The camera will pan up to show her face submerged underneath the water when there is a loud bang coming from the hallway/stairs. The sound will be muffled as the character is under water. There will be an extreme close up of the girls face as it comes out of the water quickly in a panic. She sits in silence to try and hear any noises. The camera shows an extreme close up of the tap dripping to build tension.
We have decided to use fast paced editing which will portray the panic of the character of her scrambling out of the bath and gathering her belongings. As she is standing there will be water dripping off of her and there will be a close up of the droplets hitting the ground.
The screen will blackout which may cause the audience confusion.
The girl opens the bathroom door and a point of view shot will be used to show her blurred view of the hallway. There is a flashback of her standing infront of the bathroom mirror trying to get her medication to go down the sink. She has her head in her hands and then looks up into the mirror. As she opens her eyes there appears to be a man standing over her shoulder. She jumps and it flicks back to the hallway. There is a dolly camera following her running down the stairs. A high angle shot will show her standing at the bottom of the stairs. The camera will pan downward and show that the back door is open and the character runs towards it to shut it. The girl shuts the door and turns around and takes in a deep breath in. Jump cuts will be used to show a figure emerging from the dark garden up to the back door behind the character. An over the shoulder shot will be used from the front of the character. The girl walks away from the door and the door opens again so she runs and locks is. The door locking will be shown with a close up.
The character scrambles to the front door in an attempt to escape the house. However there are latches which sets the character into a panic. This will be shown with a long shot. A close up of the front doors locks and the characters hands will be shown to show the audience the struggle of her escape. The camera will pan around as the girl turns to check behind her and then pans back around to the door as she continues trying to escape. Low key lighting will be used as the 'stalker' character is shown in the living room door way.
We have decided to use Strobe lighting as it represents disjointed thoughts and a sense of chaos. This will put the audience into the characters shoes. Strobe lighting will show shots of the stalkers feet his hands holding an object and finally his face. This is when the panic will set in.

Planning
Ive created a mood board which will hopefully give me some inspiration and guidance as to where i'm going with my trailer. The location is going go be a large family home which is similar to a lot of horror films for example paranormal activity. I think the effect of this is that the audience isn't expecting anything bad to happen due to the fact it is in an everyday location.
Organisation
I have begun to develop character profiles for the roles I am casting:
The main character
An ordinary looking teenage girl similar actresses such as Emma Roberts or Debby Ryan
The 'stalker'
A man who could come across as quite creepy! Actors such as Cillian Murphy who has starred in Inception and 28 days later fit this role! I will try and achieve a similar look for the character in my trailer...

This is the location we are using. The house looks secluded which is typical of a horror film. The effect of the house being secluded is that the audience anticipate worst things to happen due to the connotation of a house which is in the middle of nowhere. As you can see the comparison photo's of houses which have featured in horror films before look similar to the one which we are using.

This is the tracker from all of my blog posts last week. Since then I have updated my blog and completed three extra posts one which is similar products and two which would come under the Organisation category. From the tracker I can see that I need to complete more posts on target audience. In response to this I am going to post the results of my survey monkey and then analyse them to see which aspects I want to contain in my products. I am going to allow the target audience results to help me to create posts on the organization of my trailer.

Research into similar products - The Ward Trailer Analysis
Camerawork
The establishing shot is a close up of a timer which ticks twice. This opens the trailer with something which will create a tense atmosphere. A dolly is used to show the first character - a distressed young woman running through a forest area. The screen blacks out and a medium shot shows the woman lighting a match and a police car pulling up behind her. The effect of this is that the character is presented as being troubled. A variety of different shots is used to show the burning building which will make the audience question what is going on. A low canted angle is used to show a car driving up to a manor house. This scene compared to the previous scene would cause confusion among the audience.
Target Audience
After creating a short survey on Survey Monkey I have looked at the results and tried to use these to help me when I am creating my trailer and ancillary products. I decided to create a shorter questionnaire with slightly more in depth questions so that I have a better idea where I am aiming to go with my products.

Research into similar products
Analysing two film trailers on split personalities will allow me to see what kind of things I need to include to make it effective.
Firstly is a film called Dorothy Mills.
This is is a story based on a disturbed teenager who begins to do very strange things. For example she is caught strangling a baby. She is sent to a psychiatric unit where the majority of the film is based only to find out that she has multiple personality disorder. I, however want my film to be based at home and not in any type of institute/ hospital as it is more realistic to shoot at home and I feel that it will give me a lot more freedom with lighting, props etc.
Another film which is very similar to something which I am aiming to create is John Carpenter's The Ward.
This is based on a young woman who become institutionalized after she starts doing strange things which make her appear to be crazy however she is being harassed by a spirit. This film contains a lot of little twists which keeps the audience on the edge of their seats at all times and this is an effect I want to achieve with my trailer. A good trailer needs to be mysterious however it also needs to convey enough about the film to entice the audience's interests.
