Drafting and planning
In the creating of trailer we looked at different film idents. We decided to use 'Anna Purna Pictures'. Our decision was based upon the fact that Anna Purna is mainly for independent films which links in quick well with our choice of magazine for a the ancillary product. Little White Lies is not the generic magazine and features independent films so we thought that it would make sense to use an independent film company. Luckily for us, the ident looks quite spooky so along with making it clear that its an independent film it adds some effect to the trailer aswell.

Research
Using Pinterest I looked for some Little White Lies cover style artwork which could inspire me when improving my magazine cover. I particularly looked for pictures which could be interpreted into the horror genre.

Planning
In many horror films there are shots which show figures showing up behind a character looking in the mirror. We have tried to re-create this in our trailer however it wasn't as effective as we hoped. Hannah and I looked at previous students work and saw ways in which they had re-created a jumping/ appearing effect and we tried to use these skills to create it in our trailer.

Planning
When filming Hannah and I tried to do a close up shot of an eye in the crack of a door, however it didn't work out as we had planned. I have looked at some images which may help us make our close up shot of the eye better.
The shot we took was quite dark and the actual eye wasn't very clear so if we re take the shot we will make it clearer and brighter.

Planning
Trying to find a way in which to interpret out photographs for the Little White Lies cover I am creating is proving to be quite challenging, therefore I have spent some time looking at covers which feature films in the horror genre.
When I looked at this it automatically appealed to me. Our film is about a girl being stalked and this is fitting with that idea also. I really like the way it has been drawn and the black figure behind her. There are a lot of things which I could take from this and develop to use in my own cover. The only thing which doesn't appeal to me about this cover is the use of colour.
These are both effective. However there is blood featured which suggests that the film will be gory whereas ours is more of a psychological thriller. There are some things which could be manipulated and used in order for them to be effective in representing our film. 'The Obsession Issue' shows a girl huddled over on a black background which I liked. And I liked how the words are incorporated into the image. I loved how the girls hair becomes the background on the 'Let the right one in cover'.

We found that our actress was finding it difficult to portray emotion. To make it slightly easier for her to understand what we were aiming to achieve we showed her a collation of pictures and gifs as guidance.
All of these show girls who look either upset or distressed. We need our actress to portray a sense of discomfort and anxiety.

Since filming we have realised that some ideas which we initially had are not working out as well as planned. Due to this our original story board do not match up with what we have created so far in our trailer. Hannah and I have created a rough new version of a story board with new ideas and some things have been taken out such as bath scenes.

The photos which are now cropped to use for my magazine cover need to be pictorial representations rather than photographs. I have found a few wesbites where you can edit images so that they look drawn or painted.

I have edited a few pictures just to see the quality of the final images.

Planning
I have looked at what we have done so far and tried to analyse good and bad points so that when it comes to the final stages of editing, Hannah and I have a good idea as to where we are aiming to finish.
I have created a table which shows the differences between the initial story board, what we have done differently in the trailer so far and why we have made the changes we have made. This will keep us on track and it provides an explanation and thought process behind the decisions we have made.

To try and re-create a wall of pictures created by a stalker, we have printed some photos of the main character.
We have used black and white ink which isnt a problem as we are going to have these scenes in black and white anyway. This is obviously a figure of the girls imagination seeing as the stalker doesn't really exist so the use of black and white throughout the trailer will try and foreshadow the scenes which the girl is imagining in her head to the audience.

Planning
We looked into stalker films and programmes and found that many featured a wall of pictures of the victim/victims. We liked this idea and decided to try and adapt it for our own trailer. We have already completed some of the filming however we think that this will be an easy scene to shoot and slot in. The use of a wall of photos which the stalker has created will involve the stalker character a bit more as we found when filming that the main focus was on the girl and the stalker character was left out of quite a few shots which we had planned him to originally be in.
I think that it is very effective in the photos which show a light being shone up to the wall. This is something which we will experiment with. Our stalker character is going to be stood standing looking at the images however we want it to appear to be a dark figure. We will play around with the editing software and lighting whilst filming to achieve maximum effect.

Drafting
Due to the quirky style of the Little White Lies magazine I have tried to interpret my images in a slightly different way rather than just showing the full photo. By cropping the images so that the hand is shown, I feel, retains the mystery and is a little bit different to what you would typically expect on a magazine such as Empire or Total Film.

Drafting
This is a mock up of a magazine cover. There are multiple things which need to be changed however I felt it useful to create this so that I had a bit more guidance as to where I want to go. For example the masthead is covering some of the image which is fine in most cases however this masthead is quite large, which means that it could potentially look a bit out of place. I also need to change the masthead so that it says 'The Tormented Issue' which is the typical single cover line of a little white lies cover. The image had to be cropped quite a bit which meant that it had to be decreased in size also. This has created a slight blur on the picture, which is something I will need to work on.

I have changed the font to the same font which I have used on my magazine template. I may change it to 'The Tormented Issue'

Planning
I have been thinking about the compilation and creation of my magazine cover. I have taken a photo which I really like. I have also looked at 'The following' (shown in a post before). There are also things which I need to take into consideration such as the idea that Little White Lies covers are normally pictoral representations. I am going to find ways in which I can either cartoonize the photograph taken so that it looks like an official edition of a cover, which is the aim, or a way in which I can get somebody to draw a representation of the picture for me. Another problem which has been brought to my attention is the fact that the photograph is landscape which obviously will not be suitable for a portrait magazine cover. However this will only prove to be a problem if I chose to edit the photo rather than use a drawing.

Planning
Something which I am going to change is the font I have used here. I realised after doing further research that newer and more contemporary horror/thrillers have kept the fonts very simplistic compared to older horror films where there are a lot of different and quirky fonts. I want my trailer and ancillary products to be very much 'now' rather than them looking dated. Due to this I have edited the poster and I am going to edit the magazine cover so that it follows a house style.

When we carried out the filming Hannah and I both took our own individuals photographs which followed the seperate ideas we had had for our ancillary products. Hannah did the makeup of the actress/actor and I focused on getting the setting/location ready to film. For example took control of the lighting so that the photographs and footage were of a good quality. We both shared split responsibility of both filming and directing, one of us would film and the other would direct vice versa. I feel we have worked effectively together so far in the project and have kept very equal roles.

I have explored potential sound effects so that when it comes to actually collecting the sounds when editing the trailer, we will have an idea of what we are looking for.

Organisation
I have looked into horror movies which feature a dripping tap due to the fact we are having a shot of a tap dripping slowly in our trailer. I have uploaded the raw footage here to show evidence of our filming and am going to edit it to try and achieve a scarier effect for example, reducing the brightness or slowing down the shot to create a slow motion effect.
Along with editing the shot's lighting etc using editing software I am going to have to add sounds which are running along side the trailer to reach full potential. To find sounds I have looked on:
Other sound effects we are going to need are:
An engaged phone
Dialling sounds
Some sort of crash/bang
Chains
Heavy breathing

I have created an analysis of my template movie poster and an analysis of a poster of a similar genre. The poster is not a horror film however it is a series which is in the thriller genre. It is showing a very similar concept to mine so I felt that by creating an analysis I will be able to self assess my work a lot easier as it will be a lot clearer as to which parts are looking effective and which parts aren't.

This is one of the most effective photos out of all of the ones which we had taken. I am looking into a way in which the picture can be interpreted. For example drawn, or edited on a computer so that it looks similar to the covers featured on Little White Lies.

Planning
Hannah and I looked at different ways im which we can make the editing look effective. We also wanted to make sure that the trailer flows well so looked at trailers to see ways in which the edit the shots to make sure transitions are smooth. For example 'The Call' uses 911 calls as the theme and we have interpreted this to suit our main theme. We are planning on replaying the girls 999 calls at the beginning of the trailer and also at crucial parts of the trailer. I feel like this will be effective as it will reveal the panicked state which the girl is in however it may give subtle hints (from the response of the 999 operaters reactions to her 2nd and 3rd calls) that something is not quite right.

Drafting
After putting the photo with the actual poster there were a lot of things which I found I wanted to change, For example the film name font had to changed as it was taking focus away from the picture. I also wanted to aim for something a lot more minimalistic. Things which have been taken away have been actor/actresses names as I am going to include them in a directors block which I need to create for along the bottom. I kept the main heading and tag line in black however I decided to change certain things such as 'Inspired by real life events' and the fonts close to the edges to a white font as I felt it contrasted and gave the poster something which made it stand out rather than everything being in black. The outside edges of the poster are also darker due to the effects and filters used which meant that black fonts where blending in too much in these areas.

Drafting
These are the photos which we have taken for our magazine and movie posters. We have tried to make the character look tired and worn out. Some shots are better than other however there is a lot to work with which will enable us to see which are more effective photos than others.
Organisation
We did a couple of test shots on my Iphone before we took the actual shots for our magazine cover and film poster. These were just basic images to show what the characters were going to look like before filming and taking the actual shots.
